Repairs That Address the Cause
Asphalt repair and pothole patching covers the failures that show up between paving jobs: potholes, broken edges, sunken utility trenches, and cracks that let water reach the base. A pothole is almost always a base problem. Water gets in through a crack, softens the stone and soil underneath, and traffic pushes the weakened asphalt down until it breaks out. Throwing cold patch in the hole fills it for a while; cutting out the failed area and rebuilding the base fixes it.
Patching methods
- Cold patch: a bagged or stockpiled mix pressed into the hole; quick and cheap but temporary.
- Hot patch: hot-mix placed in a cleaned and tacked hole; longer lasting on sound base.
- Saw-cut (remove and replace): the failed area is cut square, dug out, the base rebuilt and compacted, and hot-mix placed and rolled flush. This is the permanent repair.
- Infrared: the existing asphalt is heated and reworked with new mix; best for surface defects on otherwise sound pavement.
We recommend the method based on what we find when we probe the area.
Edges and storm damage
Unsupported asphalt edges crumble, especially where cars ride off the side or where runoff undercuts the shoulder. After heavy rain or a tropical storm, we often find edges washed out from below. We rebuild the base under the edge, pave it back, and, where it makes sense, add a compacted shoulder or a thickened edge so it does not break again.
Crack sealing
Cracks are the doorway for water. HomeGuide distinguishes simple crack filling, which lasts about 1 to 2 years, from crack sealing with a hot, flexible rubberized material, which lasts about 3 to 8 years. We clean cracks out with air, and seal working cracks with hot material. Wide alligator-cracked areas are not sealed; they are cut out and patched, because the base underneath has already failed.
Repair or replace?
When patches cover a large share of the surface, or new potholes keep appearing, repeated repairs stop being good value. We give you both prices so you can compare a round of repairs with an overlay or replacement.
Commercial lots
Potholes in a parking lot are a trip hazard as well as a pavement problem. For property managers we can mark and price every failure on a site map, prioritize the worst ones, and schedule repairs around business hours.

Published national ranges, not Corpus Christi quotes. Each guide builds its figures differently, so ranges overlap rather than match. Removal, soft-base repair, drainage work and access move the total. The figure on your written estimate is the price.
How It Works
1. Inspect
We probe each failure to see whether it is surface-only or a base problem.

Areas cut, base rebuilt where needed, hot-mix placed and compacted.
4. Seal
Joints and working cracks sealed so water stays out.

Asphalt Repair & Pothole Patching Questions
Why do potholes keep coming back in the same spot?
Because the base under them is still wet or soft. A cold patch only fills the hole. A saw-cut repair removes the failed material, rebuilds the base and seals the edges, which is what stops the cycle.
How much does pothole repair cost?
HomeGuide's national range is $100 to $400 for a typical pothole, with many contractors charging a minimum of $100 to $250 per visit. Grouping several repairs into one visit usually lowers the cost per patch.
Is crack sealing worth it?
For cracks that are still narrow and the pavement around them is sound, yes. HomeGuide says hot crack sealing lasts about 3 to 8 years and costs far less than patching the potholes that form when water gets in.
Can you fix storm damage on my driveway edge?
Yes. We rebuild the undermined base, repave the edge and look at where runoff is coming from so the repair is not washed out again.
