Restriping Done to Current Standards
Parking lot striping puts down the stall lines, arrows, crosswalks, fire lanes and accessible-space markings that tell drivers where to go. Lines fade under sun and traffic; HomeGuide estimates a typical striping job lasts about 2 to 5 years. On the coast, where pavement bakes in strong sun for much of the year, many lots fall toward the shorter end of that range.
Restriping and the ADA
The U.S. Department of Justice's guidance is direct: when a lot is restriped, it must provide accessible parking that meets the 2010 ADA Standards. The minimum counts go by the total number of spaces in the lot: 1 accessible space for 1 to 25 spaces, 2 for 26 to 50, 3 for 51 to 75, 4 for 76 to 100, 5 for 101 to 150, 6 for 151 to 200 and 7 for 201 to 300. At least one of every six accessible spaces must be van-accessible.
Space and aisle dimensions
An accessible car space is at least 96 inches wide with a 60-inch access aisle beside it. A van space is either 132 inches wide with a 60-inch aisle or 96 inches wide with a 96-inch aisle. Spaces and aisles can slope no more than 1:48 in any direction, and signs are mounted with the bottom at least 60 inches above the ground. We check the slope with a level before choosing where accessible spaces go; on flat coastal lots this is usually easy, but areas near inlets and entrances can be too steep.
New layouts
For a new lot or a reconfigured one, we lay out stall widths, drive aisles and traffic flow before painting. HomeGuide notes that a new layout runs about 20 to 50 percent more than restriping existing lines, because everything has to be measured and snapped from scratch.
Paint and timing
Striping goes on dry pavement in mild weather. After sealcoating, the sealer has to cure before lines go down. We usually stripe early in the day or on weekends for businesses, and we block off sections so parts of the lot stay open.
Other markings
Stop bars, directional arrows, crosswalks, fire lanes, loading zones, numbered stalls and painted curbs are priced individually. If the local fire marshal or your property management has specific requirements, send them over and we will follow them.

Typical Striping Costs
| Item | Published national range |
|---|---|
| Standard stall (HomeGuide) | $4 to $5 each |
| Accessible stall (HomeGuide) | $25 to $40 each |
| Arrow or stop bar (HomeGuide) | $10 to $30 each |
| Crosswalk, fire lane or loading zone (HomeGuide) | $35 to $75 each |
| 30 to 50 stall lot (HomeGuide) | $500 to $1,200 |
| Mobilization fee (HomeGuide) | $150 to $350 |
Published national ranges, not Corpus Christi quotes. Each guide builds its figures differently, so ranges overlap rather than match. Removal, soft-base repair, drainage work and access move the total. The figure on your written estimate is the price.
How It Works
1. Count and measure
We count spaces, check slopes and confirm the accessible-space count.
2. Layout
Lines snapped or traced, accessible spaces placed on level ground.
3. Paint
Lines and markings applied on dry, clean pavement.
4. Reopen
Sections reopen once the paint has dried.

Parking Lot Striping Questions
How many accessible spaces does my lot need?
Under the 2010 ADA Standards it depends on the total: 1 for up to 25 spaces, 2 for 26 to 50, 3 for 51 to 75, 4 for 76 to 100, and so on. At least one in six accessible spaces must be van-accessible.
Do I have to add accessible spaces if I am only restriping?
Yes. DOJ guidance says restriping a lot must provide accessible parking that meets the 2010 Standards.
How long does striping last?
HomeGuide estimates 2 to 5 years depending on traffic, weather and paint. Strong sun and heavy turning traffic wear lines faster.
Should I seal before striping?
If the lot is due for sealcoating, yes. Sealing covers the old lines, so we stripe after the sealer cures and you get both done in the same window.
